Sunday afternoon in People’s Square. Every weekend from 10am – 5pm people gather beneath the trees and round the lotus lake to seek partners for their children. From trees and parasols, millions of papers flutter with profiles of people, detailing age, zodiac sign, personality, and appearance. Welcome to match-making Chinese style.

  1. The choice was unbelievable. And also, so many people attended the market, you couldn’t move… A man and woman approached me asking where I was from, and when I said England, they said ‘English + Chinese = good’ and signaled a child. Then I had another guy approach me and he bought me an iced coffee! But no I made it very clear I wasn’t looking for a Chinese husband. Just window shopping, haha
